Linear Momentum and Impuls
Two blocks of mass mA = 3kg and mass mB =
4 kg, respectively,
slide along a horizontal surface from the left to the right at
velocities vA,1 = 2.0 m/s and vB,1 = 1.0 m/s.
There is no friction between the blocks and the surface they are gliding along
Because block A starts off to the left of block B and is faster, it catches
up with block B. Upon collision the two blocks stick together and glide
along with the same velocity.
- Determine the linear momentum for each block before the collision.
- Determine the velocity of the two blocks after the collision.
