Problem # p046

Rotation about fixed axis, 3-D
The axis AB in the figure is supported by two bearings at point A and B, respectively, which are fixed in space. The axis rotates counter-clockwise (looking along the axis from B towards A) with an angular velocity ω = 3 rad/s and an angular acceleration of α = 2 rad/s2.
A rod CD is rigidly attached to the axis AB and rotates with it. Its length and orientation is such that the vector from C to point D is :

  1. Determine the x- and y- and z-component of the velocity of point D.

  2. Determine the x- and y- and z-component of the acceleration of point D.
