Shearing and Bearing Stress

Two plates (shown in cross-sectional view) are held together by 2 rivets against the load P. Assume that the two rivets share this load to equal parts.

Thicknesses : t1=0.7 inch,   t2=0.4 inch.             Load : P = 1400 lbs

Determine the diameter of the rivets such that the shearing stress does not exceed 12000 psi and the bearing stress does not exceed 16000 psi.
