Internal Shear Force and Moment
A beam of length L=4m is subject to a distributed load which weighs (that is acting downwards onto the beam) 80 kN/m. The load starts at the left end of the beam and extends only to the half-way mark, x=L/2.

  1. Determine the total weight of the load.

  2. Determine the support forces R1 and R2.

  3. Determine the equation for the internal shear force V(x) and moment M(x) as function of x and calculate their values at

    at x = 0,   x=1/4*L,   x=1/2*L (two different values for shear force),   x=3/4*L,   and x=L

  4. Sketch the diagrams for the internal internal shear force V(x) and and internal moment M(x)
